Nowadays, we live in a era where self is number one and others come after the wants and needs of our own. We find as we grow older that friends, well "real" friends become further and further from the simple BFF model we knew in middle school. But if you really think about it, it isn't. When we were younger we didn't have so many distraction and our BFF was like an extension of our being, which still may be the case after you factor in work, your boyfriend/girlfriend, children, and one million other things that come between friends. So here are a few ways to be a better friends and rekindle some of those dwindling friendships.
1. Communicate - There is nothing like a meaningful heart to heart. You can't expect anyone to know whats going on or how you feel if you don't talk. Take control of your emotions and try your hardest to relay them in a way that your friend can understand. No screaming and yelling!
2. Tell the truth - If you've been a crapy friend...admit it. Beating around the bush gets you nowhere fast. Mean what you say and say what you mean.
3. Listen - Simple. Sometimes it can't be about you. Listening takes time and effort. In order to be sincere in your friendship you must engage in active listening and attempt to care about what you are hearing and not just pose as if you are listening.
4. Make time - We are all busy. We all have lives, some more busy than others, but it is important that you set aside time for your friends.
