Last Friday, I had the pleasure of attending the 13th Annual Women's Empowerment Luncheon in my hometown of Columbus, GA held at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center.

About 1,240 women from throughout the tri-city area were in attendance to shop, network, and more importantly: to be empowered. The keynote speaker for this year's luncheon was Award winning actress Lynn Whitfield while the theme was: Remembering our Struggle, Reclaiming our Purpose, and Redefining our Image.

I was moved throughout the entire event seeing so many women of all colors and ages looking so beautiful and coming together for such a wonderful cause.

Highlights

During Lynn Whitfield's speech, she touched on how important it is for women to find our purpose in life and how our purpose in life is directly connected to our passion. Her words resonated with me so much, it felt as though she was talking directly to me as I am sure she was hitting home for many others in the room. She went on to say that whatever your purpose is: find it no matter how big or small.

We also got bit of show! To close out her empowering speech, Ms Whitfield concluded with three poems by prominent women in history to include "Ego Tripping" by poet and activist Nikki Giovanni. She belted these poems and performed them as if they were her own words and the room was soaking it all in word by word.

If you missed this event, be sure to attend next year as I am sure that it will be just as empowering!
